Research consent notice

What you agree to when you join the survey. Please read it before you tick the box.

Last updated

This notice is for people who want to join the Lakeshore Research player survey. Kassem Media Group runs the survey. It is for players aged 19 or older. The sites we show are for Ontario residents.

What the survey is for

We want to learn how players use regulated online casinos and sportsbooks: which sites they have used, what they play, how often, and how they manage their play. We publish grouped results so other players can see what to expect.

What taking part involves

  1. You create an account.
  2. You answer a few questions about how you play. Under two minutes.
  3. You pick where you live, and we show you links to regulated operators there, by name. Visiting them is your choice. You do not have to visit, sign up or deposit anywhere.

They are plain links to the operators’ own websites. We do not hide which operator is which. We offer no extras or deals, and we show none. No operator pays us for these links today, and we do not pay you. We record that you clicked, and when, so we know which sites our members chose to look at.

An invitation to take part is not a recommendation to gamble. Gambling can be addictive. If it stops being fun, ConnexOntario is free, private and open 24/7: 1-866-531-2600.

What we collect

Your account details (name, email, date of birth, phone, home address), your survey answers, and your clicks on operator links. The privacy policy lists each item and why we ask for it.

How we use the answers

  • We publish counts, medians and ranges across many players. Never your answers on their own.
  • We publish a number for a site only once at least 5 players have reported on it.
  • Free comments help us understand the numbers. We never publish them as written.
  • We never give your answers or your details to an operator.
  • Our internal team may read individual answers to check that they are genuine.

Risks and benefits

The main risk is to your privacy, and we limit it as the privacy policy describes. There is no payment for taking part. The benefit is to other Ontario players, who get a clearer picture of how sites treat them.

Your choice

Taking part is voluntary. You can stop at any time. You can delete your account and all your data from your account page, right away, without giving a reason. Results we have already published in grouped form stay published, because no one can be picked out of them.

Questions or concerns

Ask us anything about the survey. Write to us through the support page. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

What you confirm when you tick the box

The box at sign-up reads: “I agree to take part in the Lakeshore Research player survey, as the research consent notice describes.” We store the exact words you saw, with the date and time, with your account.
